Meal Planning-- It Doesn't have to be Hard!

Since it's Meal Plan Monday I though I would share with you how I make my Meal Plan each week in under 10 minutes!

I have a so called "system", it's basic but I call it a "system" and it works for me!!!

Each day of the week I have an idea what type of meal we will have before I ever start!
Here's an Example of what I'm talking about....

Monday's -- I plan a breakfast meal one week and then alternate a Mexican Meal the next.
So for instance I planned Wet Burritos last week and this week pancakes and sausage. Next week will be back to maybe tacos, then the next week maybe eggs! If your family really likes Mexican you could do a different recipe and have it every Monday (or whichever day you choose) I've heard a lot of people having Taco Tuesday!

Tuesday's are always Meat and potatoes night -- I choose from chicken, meatloaf, meatballs, or many other choices. And always vary the potatoes too. Twice baked, baked, cheesy, or many others. We sometimes have Rice in the place of rice or in addition to.

Wednesday's -- This is what I call Kid Friendly or Easy! -- These are meals like Tomato Soup and grilled cheese, Chicken fingers and fries, BLT's (mostly in summer), Pigs in blankets, Hamburgers, sloppy dogs, ect. You get the picture and know what your family likes!

Thursday's are normally Pasta night --- Any pasta will do Spaghetti, lasagna, goulash, or even Alfredo! my favorite! Since we love pasta it's not a problem to have it weekly especially when there is so may variations.

Friday's we normally eat with my Husbands family so I usually take something. If we don't get together we will have leftovers or something easy.

Saturday's are Pizza night. 3 weeks I'll make Homemade and then 1 week we'll have Pizza Hut to use the kids' Book it's!

Sunday for lunch I'll make a crockpot meal. I will either have hamburgers with brown gravy carrots and potatoes, Beef Stew meat with potatoes and carrots, sometimes just homemade mac and cheese, or Chili over Baked potatoes (all of these meals I have recipes for on this site and you'll see them regularly on my meal plans!

Sunday nights are normally make yourself night -- Either Nacho Chips with meat sauce and cheese or popcorn! Sometimes even cereal!!! I know I get the mom award with that one!!

****
I think it's hard to sit down with a blank paper and try to make a list of 7 meals each and every week. It gets hard to come up with something new and to make sure you have a good variety. But if you have a basic starting point it becomes a ton easier to decide what you haven't had for awhile and where you need to come up with a new recipe!

Of course none of this is set in stone and there are those meals that everyone likes that don't really fit into any category at all. I vary from the normal from time to time and fit different meals in whenever I want... BUT I do love having a starting point!!

So how do you meal plan??? Do you have certain days that you always do a type of meal like me or do you use a different "system" each week to plan???

If you don't meal Plan at all... TRY IT!!! I think you'll love it!

Meal Plan Monday

Okay so how many of you are DONE with your shopping???
CUZ I'M NOT!!! I really need to get it done before the snow flies
BUT I just heard that it's going to fly around here on Wed. and Thurs.
Guess I missed that one... Story of my life!!!!(grin)!

Our week looks pretty normal around here. I need to bake our
bread for the week and my son is DYING for
more cinnamon rolls so I'm hoping to fit that in!!

Here's my Meal Plan for the week...

Monday-- Pancakes and Sausage

Tuesday -- Meatballs and Cheesy Potatoes (trying a new recipe that makes a triple batch! I will freeze the other 2 meals worth and have two easy meals later!) also have a veggie and applesauce!

Wednesday -- Chicken Fingers and Steak Fries

Thursday -- Baked Potato Bar

Friday -- Leftovers or Tomato Soup (that we didn't eat last week)

Saturday -- Homemade Pizza or Book -It Pizza Hut???

Sunday -- Crock pot Hamburgers, potatoes, and carrots

Weekly Groceries

I know I'm not supposed to be
grocery shopping in December
BUT....
I had 2 catalina's that would have expired
(and we can't have that now can we!!)

I also saw that Kroger had boneless skinless chicken breast on sale for $1.77/ lb.
My favorite local butcher is closed for the winter (and I missed the stock up sale). I visited another butcher near me and chicken breast was $4.79 /lb. ahemmm, choke, puke. I don't think so, I mean I know it's good chicken BUT $4.79/lb COME ON, GET REAL!!!!!

Okay Okay I'll quiet down (grin!)
So needless to say I'm not paying that, so we're eating Tyson Chicken for the winter! $1.77 per pound I can do!!!!
I got 7 packages (about 2 meals per pkg.) and even used some .55/1 MQ so I got about 14 meals for only $20. !!! Having chicken about one time per week, should get us 3-4 months down the road!

I also snagged a free pizza, Ritz for .99 cents, hot chocolate for .50 cents, and manager's special Eckrich hot dogs for .49 cents!

A good trip including 4 gallon milk for only $32.xx

Next week maybe I'll be able to stay out of the store!!
((You just wait Meijer will finally have a
spectacular sale, and I'll be forced to go!!!!))

Wordless Wednesday...

Anyone else have a boy who constantly
takes off his shirt...
Even this time of the year?????

We were in the car yesterday, I looked back and
he had taken off his coat and shirt.
He just won't accept the fact that winter is coming SOON!!!

In His Word Wednesday

Purpose...

Exodus 9:16
But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

2 Corinthians 5:5
Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Philippians 2:13
for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

2 Timothy 1:9
who has saved us and called us to a holy life-- not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.

Cinnamon Rolls!!

Yea my mouth is watering too... Especially since
the kids polished off the last of these last Friday!!
Time for me to bake another batch!!

If I can make these, so can you!!
Even if you've never tried before. They're really not
that hard or that time consuming. most of the time
spent is just allowing them to rise!

And ingredients...
All you need is water, yeast, sugar,
oil, salt, eggs, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, powdered sugar,
vanilla, milk, and butter
It may look like a lot but they're all normal cheap everyday
ingredients and I bet you have all of them right now!

Okay so now that I've had our pep talk.
Here's how to make them!

Since I got the recipe and directions from
Amys finer things
You mine as well
go here and read her excellent post
on how to make these
WONDERFUL CINNAMON ROLLS!!!
(check around here site, she has some other variations too!)

I figured up the cost and I came out with
around $2.00-$2.50 for 3 dozen rolls
This makes a lot of mouths happy around here
and it makes some very cheap breakfasts/snacks!

(Oh just so you know, these freeze really well.
So you don't have to eat all 3 dozen within a few days!
although it's not hard to do!!(grin))
